    Research Interests

    1. Medication Safety: Dr. Roumeliotis' research focuses on establishing the nature, severity and risk factors of medications errors and adverse drug events in critical care. Understanding these events will help build better safety systems to reduce their occurrence
    2. Discharge Safety: her research aims to evaluate the safety practice of discharging children directly home for the intensive care unit. While the practice is efficient and gaining in prevalence, she studies the healthcare utilization after discharge and aim to create tools to identify at-risk patients that need more support after discharge.
    3. Indirect Impacts of COVID-19 restrictions on children: as a member of the nationwide POPCORN research group, their study examines the effect of school closure and public health restrictions on mental health visits in youth over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Career Summary

Nadia Roumeliotis is a pediatric intensivist and clinician scientist at CHU Sainte-Justine. Her doctoral work, funded by the Fonds de Recherche Quebec Santé (FRQS) (2017-2020) and the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group (CCCTG) focused on drug error and harm in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

As an early career investigator, she has received CIHR funding for two projects; a prospective multicenter cohort evaluating medication errors and adverse drug events in critical care, and for a Pan-Canadian cohort evaluating the safety of discharge home directly from the PICU . She has also been funded by a young clinician investigator salary award from the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal and start-up funds from the Sainte-Justine Research Centre.

Her scientific work also includes leading a study on the mental health outcomes in youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, within the Pediatric Outcomes Improvement through Coordination of Research Networks (POPCORN) group. Her community engagement includes participation in the ‘Comité délibératif permanent’ of the Institut National d’Excellence en Santé et Services Sociaux (INESSS) in Quebec.
