    Career Summary

Dr. Haddad is a clinician-researcher in pediatric immunology, full professor at the University of Montreal, head of the Immunology and Rheumatology department at CHU Ste-Justine. Conducting both clinical and basic research, he is an internationally recognized expert in the field of immune deficiencies, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, cellular therapy and humanized mouse technology.

With an h-index of 65 and an i10-index of 155, he has published 205 peer-reviewed articles, which have been cited more than 14,800 times. His research has been continually supported by funds from provincial, national and international organizations, including the FRQS, CIHR, NSERC and NIH.

His research program is at the crossroads between clinic and research, which allows the understanding of mechanisms of immune diseases, the improvement of treatments already in use and the development of new therapeutic strategies. His translational research program, which combines clinical and fundamental research, is divided into 4 main themes:

    • Research on cytotoxic immune cells, mainly Natural Killer (NK) cells
    • Genetic engineering for cancer immunotherapy, based on chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) and synthetic specific promoter technologies, and notably exploiting the potential of NK cells and hematopoietic stem cells (HSC)
    • Modeling of immune-mediated diseases, both immunodeficiencies and immune dysregulation (viral and autoimmune), using humanized mouse models
    • Primary immune deficiencies and hematopoietic stem cell biology in a context transplantation and gene therapy.

    Awards and Distinctions

    • Best young investigator in Pediatric Research, Fondation des étoiles, 2011
    • Research award of the department of Pediatrics of the University of Montreal, 2015
    • Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Science, 2022
