Career Summary
Asthma is an inflammatory airways disease affecting approximately 10% of Canadian children. It is a heterogeneous condition with different clinical presentations and different risk factors for its development. There is also an important variability in the medication response between individuals. My research interests primarily focuses on asthma epidemiology and asthma pharmacogenetics, specifically related to genetic and non-genetic risk factors for asthma and response to medications used to treat asthma as well as the use of clinical tests (e.g. pulmonary function tests, biomarkers, lung imaging) to differentiate the subgroups of asthma. Ultimately, the identification of these risk factors and asthma subgroups may allow a more personalized treatment of children affected by asthma.
