    Research Interests

The enteric nervous system plays a key role in digestive motility and in visceral sensitivity. Our research activity is mainly directed towards the adaptation capacity of the enteric nervous system to physiological events (postnatal adaptation) or pathological events (colonic inflammation). We also study events occurring very early in life (neonatal period) which may induce long term modifications of the enteric nervous system into adulthood.

Our current work concerns the role and the regulation of the expression of PSA-NCAM, a neuronal adhesion molecule, in the enteric nervous system. Our clinical research activity objective is to describe the clinical and functional aspects (by manometry, barostat or non invasive techniques) and to understand the pathophysiology of congenital (esophageal atresia, postocclusive enteropathy after intestinal atresia repair, Hirschsprung disease, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction) or acquired (infection of enteric nervous system, gastroesophageal reflux, functional gastrointestinal disorders) pathologies in children.
