    Career Summary

Over the years, my research interest has focused on two major areas, pharmacology, more specifically chronopharmacology of childhood leukemia treatment, as well as hemophilia and bleeding disorders.

My research has proven that antimetabolites, especially 6-mercaptopurine, seems to be more effective in treating acute lymphoblastic leukemia when it is given in the evening rather that in the morning. Moreover, 6-mercaptopurine should not be given in association with milk, which contains xanthine oxydase that can catabolyse it up to 40% thus rendering it ineffective.

A sustained interest in the use of colloidal P32 chromic phosphate for the treatment of chronic hemophilic arthropathy has led to several publications which contributed to the spread of this technique in North America. The identification of an unusual congenital bleeding disorder, initially called factor V Québec, has led to a collaboration with several North American investigators whose results were the subject of many publications over the years. The bleeding disorder is now called Québec platelet disorder and is still the focus of very active research with colleagues from McMaster University.
