    Research Interests

Pediatric gastrointestinal disorders may manifest themselves through digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and abdominal pains that cannot be wholly attributed to a problem with a specific organ. Often, they involve hypersensitivity in one or more areas of the digestive system that trigger an infectious response or are the result of intense emotions. Clinical and diagnostic criteria were established for children in 1999: the Rome II Criteria for pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders. The approach used in the treatment of these disorders, the best known of which is irritable bowel syndrome, is biopsychosocial in focus. In fact, this approach encompasses various factors that may play a role in triggering and perpetuating symptoms.

Our research includes the study of family factors related to gastrointestinal functional disorders in children and the validation of the ROME II Criteria.
