    Research Interests

With a background in medicine, I have trained in Occupational Health (MSc) and Epidemiology and Biostatistics (PhD) at McGill University. I am mainly interested in studies in genetic epidemiology that focus on the biological basis for chronic diseases. Presently, my major interest is in investigating the role of genetic and environmental factors in the etiopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases among children. Environmental factors targeted are dietary antigens and microbial agents (pathogenic and non-pathogenic commensal bacteria). Genetic factors of interest are those related to xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, cytokine gene family and the NOD2 protein. I am also interested in investigating the genetic epidemiology of asthma in children and prostate cancer in adults.

In addition, I participate in the initiation, conduct and analysis of clinical research projects that pertain to diagnostic tests and triage methods. I am also actively involved in the conduct of systematic reviews and meta-analysis of clinical and epidemiological studies.
