    Career Summary

I am a physician with a PhD in Epidemiology. I am Full Professor of Epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University (Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health). I am also a Research Associate at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center.

My research interests are related to the study of environmental risk factors and the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes as well as childhood diseases. The definition of environment is broad: it includes chemical and physical hazards, as well as personal habits such as nutrition. More recently, I have developed an interest and expertise in genetic epidemiology that has led me to include a genetic aspect to my studies in order to evaluate gene-environment interactions as potential causes of diseases. I am currently carrying out a large study on the risk of intrauterine growth retardation in association with thrombophilic mutations and levels of plasma homocysteine, as well as mutations in genes involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics and exposure to xenobiotics during pregnancy. In addition, I am conducting a study on environmental risk factors and childhood leukemia. I am presently completing a family-based study to determine the role played by susceptibility genes and the environment on the incidence of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
