Clinical Research Unit PRODIGY

Unit Presentation

PRODIGY is short for Prevention of Cardiovascular Risk, Obesity and Diabetes: Investigating Genes to Society in Youth.

PRODIGY is interested in all aspects, from biological to psychosocial, of youth cardiovascular risk (dyslipidemia, obesity, tobacco dependence, hypertension and others). Its ultimate objective is to better understand the underlying mechanisms of these risk factors and their determinants in order to offer effective intervention strategies to communities, children, adolescents and their families, allowing them to achieve optimal health. Consequently, PRODIGY has called on a team of researchers from five universities with highly diversified interests and expertise: pediatrics, endocrinology, cardiology, genetics, nutrition, biochemistry, vascular imaging, health psychology, social sciences, kinesiology, dentistry, epidemiology, biostatistics and public health.

Granting organizations

Various PRODIGY projects are funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation.
