"In 2002... I will be 5 years old!" The Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD 1998-2002)

Longitudinal studies have shown that children's adjustment problems on school entry can predict their academic development and later psychosocial adaptation. However, the factors instrumental in the development of the adjustment problems from the fetal stage to the beginning of school are still poorly understood.

Objectives

The study "In 2002... I will be 5 years old!" was born out of the necessity to better understand children's biopsychosocial development between the first and fifth year of life. To this end, the study seeks to improve current knowledge about the risk and protective factors that provoke or prevent psychosocial problems among children.

"In 2002... I will be 5 years old!" is the first longitudinal study of a cohort of babies from Quebec. Implemented by Santé Québec in collaboration with a team of researchers from five universities in Quebec, the study will provide a detailed portrait of the characteristics of more than 2,000 babies followed annually from birth to five years of age.

Subjects (Sample)

The questionnaires used in the study "In 2002... I will be 5 years old!" that began in March 1998 were previously validated with a sample of 572 families.
