Diagnostic Methods for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Other Pathologies Related to Spine Malformations: A New Technology to Detect and Control Progression

This project plans to uncover the genetic causes of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Our findings have allowed us to categorize AIS patients in three different functional groups according to their response to melatonin, thus suggesting the involvement of several genes in the evolution of this pathology. The research team is now validating a diagnostic test through blood samples that could lead to the identification of children at high risk of developing scoliosis.
