MIREC – Maternal-Infant Research on Environmental Chemicals
About 2,000 women from ten hospitals across Canada will be taking part in this cohort study. The study has three main objectives: (1) to assess the extent to which pregnant women and their babies are exposed to chemicals; (2) to measure certain beneficial components in breast milk; (3) and to establish whether any health risks are associated with the levels of chemicals measured, especially heavy metals such as lead and mercury.
