Oral contraception use before pregnancy and the risk of gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia

Literature suggests that oral contraception use increases blood pressure. Hence, there is reason to believe that oral contraception use before pregnancy might increase the risk of gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia.

Through this study, the research team sought to investigate the association between oral contraception use before pregnancy and the risk of (1) gestational hypertension, (2) pre-eclampsia, and (3) eclampsia. The study is being conducted using data from the Quebec Pregnancy Registry.
