The CHU Sainte-Justine is proud to present its new Clinical Pharmacology Unit.

The CHU Sainte-Justine is proud to present its new Clinical Pharmacology Unit. The unit was created in an effort to centralize existing pharmacological activities, as well as promote the development of this transversal and transdisciplinary field.

Through its various missions: clinical, research-development, evaluation and education, this unit will ensure that pharmacotherapy administered to both pediatric and adult patients is the safest and most effective available, and offers the best cost/benefit ratio. The new unit will use the latest knowledge and technology to meet the challenges of individualized posology, representing a major step forward for care quality and patient safety. Clinical activity, research, evaluation and education will also benefit from a partnership with the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center, the UETMIS, the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Université de Montréal, national and international clinical pharmacology units, and the private sector.

What is clinical pharmacology?

Clinical pharmacology is defined by the World Health Organization as any activity related to outcome (metabolism), effects (therapeutic and adverse) of medication on humans and their use. In a mother-child university health center such as ours, this means a discipline studying the entire medication life cycle (Phase I to Phase IV) in the fœtus, child and pregnant woman. Its ultimate objective is to ensure that the pharmacotherapy chosen for each patient is the best possible solution, resulting in safe, effective treatment.

Our most sincere congratulations to the new UPC team for placing our institution at the cutting edge of scientific discovery in the field of clinical pharmacology, continously seeking to improve patient care. What is clinical pharmacology?
