Dr. Guy A. Rouleau awarded the 2012 Wilder-Penfield Prize for Biomedical Research

Montreal, Quebec, October 31, 2012 – Dr. Guy A. Rouleau, an investigator and neurologist and the Director of the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center, has been awarded the Wilder-Penfield Prize for Biomedical Research. Maka Kotto, Minister of Culture and Communications, and Pierre Duchesne, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, announced the winners of the 2012 Prix du Québec.

A graduate of McGill University in Neurology and prestigious Harvard University in Genetics, Dr. Guy A. Rouleau single-handedly discovered a score of genes responsible for neurological and psychiatric illnesses. Recognized as an outstanding investigator by his peers, Dr. Guy A. Rouleau has directed the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center since 2006. He was made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec and is recognized as one of the first investigators to have introduced modern techniques in genetics aimed at the study and characterization of neurological diseases. Dr. Guy A. Rouleau has written approximately 40 book chapters and published more than 500 scientific articles in leading journals such as The Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Cell, PNAS and Nature. He has also been a speaker at more than 120 conferences in numerous countries around the world, including the USA, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, India, Mexico and England.

All of Quebec is very proud and we are grateful for this priceless legacy,” said Ministers Maka Kotto and Pierre Duchesne.
