Inauguration of the new rehabilitation clinical research unit (UReCA)

At the sainte-justine marie-enfant rehabilitation center

Montreal, October 17, 2012 – The Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center in collaboration with the Marie Enfant Rehabilitation Center (CRME) inaugurated its new Rehabilitation Clinical Research Unit (UReCA) at the CRME on September 25th. More than sixty healthcare professionals, mostly rehabilitation clinicians, physicians, managers and researchers were given the opportunity to discover the importance of this Unit in daily practice and get acquainted with its mandate, that is to:

contribute to the development and promotion of research related to children and teenagers living with a motor or language impairment in order to provide greater autonomy, so they can be successful in everyday life through an optimal social integration and participation."

Through a visit of the gait and speech laboratories, our guests were able to observe first-hand tools that UReCA members have at their disposal. A multidisciplinary approach is the driving force behind UReCA. This Unit includes clinicians and researchers from many disciplines including ergotherapy, kinesiology, physiotherapy, mechanical engineering, linguistics, speech therapy, and many others.

The main objectives of UReCA are to focus on collaboration and to emphasize knowledge transfer of clinical research with other clinical and research settings as well as to facilitate the development of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions in the field of pediatric rehabilitation. UReCA offers students and trainees a stimulating environment based on clinical practice. A number of activities will also be organized such as Mercredis de l’UReCA, a newsletter, and electronic news bulletins to stimulate discussions.
