Dr. Anne Gallagher gets major awards from the CIHR and the FRSQ

Montréal, November 26, 2013 – Dr. Anne Gallagher, a researcher in neuropsychology at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center (CHU Sainte-Justine), in the Brain Diseases research axis, is the proud recipient of two New Investigator Salary Awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRSQ).

These grants will support this highly talented scientist in her research work on the brain and cognitive development of infants with infantile spasms during the next five years and will enable her to pursue her career as an independent researcher. More specifically, Dr. Gallagher will receive a $300,000 New Investigator Salary Award from the CIHR over five years, which will be completed over four years with a Research-Scholars Career Award Junior 1 – Clinical and Epidemiological Research from the FRQS.

Besides being a scientist at CHU Sainte-Justine, Dr. Anne Gallagher is an Assistant Research Professor in the Psychology Department at Université de Montréal. Her research work focuses mainly on the cognitive and cerebral effects of various pediatric diseases and syndromes such as epilepsy, childhood spasms, tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), prematurity and congenital heart defects. She aims at better understanding these conditions and their effects on brain development, identify markers that predict the appearance of certain related disorders or developmental prognosis and develop presurgical assessment techniques that can be used in these populations.
