Dr. Luis Barreiro among the “40 under 40” world’s up-and-coming researchers according to Cell
Montreal, July 8, 2014 - Dr. Luis Barreiro was selected one of the world’s most promising scientist in Cell’s special 40th anniversary edition. In an article entitled "40 under 40", 40 young researchers under 40 were interviewed on scientific and personal aspects of their lives, including their passions, their sources of motivation, their lab philosophy, and the joys and challenges of their career in research.

This remarkable recognition highlights the outstanding successes of Dr. Barreiro. In addition to publishing in prestigious journals such as Nature Genetics, PLoS Genetics, Nature Reviews Genetics, American Journal of Human Genetics, PNAS and PLoS Medicine, Dr. Barreiro was awarded several distinctions, such as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in functional and evolutionary genomics of the immune system, a Salary Grant Junior 1 of the Fonds de la recherche du Québec – Santé, as well as a "Career Development Award" 2012 from the Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP).
Dr. Barreiro is a researcher in the Viral and Immune Disorders and Cancers axis at the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center and assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Montreal. His research interests include the identification of the genetic factors contributing to the variability of immune responses to infectious diseases, and the understanding of the underlying mechanisms. His program is expected to set major milestones towards the implementation of new strategies to prevent infectious diseases and other immune system-related disorders.
