Dr. Stefan Parent on Asian tour as recipient of a 2015 Scoliosis Research Society Traveling Fellowship

Spinal deformities

MONTRÉAL, April 8, 2015 – Dr. Stefan Parent, researcher and orthopedic surgeon at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center (CHU Sainte-Justine) and associate professor in the Department of surgery at Université de Montréal, was awarded one of the three prestigious 2015 Traveling Fellowship of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). Thanks to the fellowship, Dr. Parent will travel to spinal deformity centers across Asia this spring. Besides presenting his scientific work, he will be introduced to clinical cases and local research projects.

Dr. Stefan Parent is among the few surgeons worldwide who performs a revolutionary back surgery technique in children with scoliosis. This technique, unlike any other, enables children of 7 years of age and up to 14 years old to gain a straight spine, with no limitation of movement. Scoliosis is a condition that affects 3%-4% of the population. The scientific work carried by Dr. Parent should help identifying those children at-risk of major curvature progression who are likely to benefit from the new surgical technique.
