Partnership agreement between TransMedTech and MEDTEQ

The TransMedTech Institute and the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Medical Technologies, MEDTEQ, are joining forces to facilitate and accelerate the implementation of new medical technologies in the health system.

MONTREAL, June 21, 2018 – The TransMedTech Institute, a living lab that supports the development and implementation of medical technologies, and the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Medical Technologies in Quebec, MEDTEQ, are proud to announce the signing of a partnership agreement that confirms the terms of collaboration for the structuring, approval, funding and management of innovative projects in medical technology.

Simplifying and accelerating the implementation of innovative medical technology projects

This agreement will simplify and accelerate the steps to be taken by TransMedTech researchers by harmonizing the project selection processes of the two organizations.
This agreement also allows MEDTEQ’s Scientific Committee to evaluate joint projects (eligible for both TransMedTech and MEDTEQ funding), as well as projects eligible for TransMedTech funding only. This committee is composed of industrial and academic members of the consortium as well as external experts, recruited on a case-by-case basis for their expertise in the specific field of the project to be evaluated.
The agreement also confirms the implementation of a project co-financing system. Indeed, TransMedTech and MEDTEQ have developed complementary skills in this field, and their alliance will allow collaborative research and innovation projects eligible for funding from both organizations to be funded first by TransMedTech, and then to access MEDTEQ funding once they have reached a sufficient level of technological maturity.

TransMedTech and MEDTEQ: complementary strengths for innovation!

TransMedTech and MEDTEQ are also joining forces to co-manage collaborative research and innovation projects eligible for funding from both organizations. This co-management is made possible by the sharing of expertise, infrastructure and human resources, which the agreement also provides for. Thanks to the agreement, Ms. Djazia Liamini was hired a few weeks ago to manage joint R&D projects.

Propelling Québec to the forefront of medical technology innovation

The Chief Executive and Scientific Officer of TransMedTech Institute, Prof. Carl-Éric Aubin, and Diane Côté, President and CEO of MEDTEQ, are very enthusiastic about the prospects of this agreement:

"Our combined skills and expertise will undoubtedly create a value chain, as well as bridges to industry and enable medical technology R&D projects that will have a real impact on society to be implemented more quickly and easily”.
- Pr. Carl-Éric Aubin, Executive and Scientific Director of the TransMedTech Institute

"The complementarity of TransMedTech’s research skills, and MEDTEQ's expertise in establishing  the industrial sector in medical technology innovation projects and commercialization, is certainly a winning formula for research teams, industrial partners, healthcare centers and ultimately the patient”.
- Diane Côté, President and CEO of MEDTEQ
