Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

The CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center is considered as an independent organization for this competition and decides which applications it wishes to support through a interne selection of the candidates.

As a first step, it is therefore important to inform us of your intention to participate before May 25, 2018. You will then have until June 26, 2018, 11:59 pm, to submit your application. We will proceed to an internal selection and we will provide personalized support to successful candidates until the submission of their application to the organization on September 19, 2018.

Objective

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country's economic, social and research-based growth.

The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is to:

  • attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally;
  • develop their leadership potential;
  • position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow.

  • $70,000 per year (taxable)
  • 2 years (non-renewable)

Eligibility

Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to apply, provided they meet the following conditions:

  • Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution.
  • Applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a foreign university may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution.
  • Applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a Canadian university may hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at either a Canadian institution or an institution outside of Canada.

Eligibility Window for Degree Completion

Applicants to the 2018-19 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program must fulfill or have fulfilled all degree requirements for a PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree:

  • between September 15, 2015 and September 30, 2019 (inclusively), and
  • before the start date of their award.

Applicants who have not fulfilled all requirements for their degree at the time of application must submit proof no later than October 15, 2019.

Requirements (Prerequisites) for Internal Selection

  • Candidates must have at least 4 publications, or equivalent*
    * The committee will consider applicants with a lower number of publications only if the student's file is competitive.
  • Candidates should not be registered at the postdoctorate at the same educational institution then the PhD.

  1. Notice of Intent
    Deadline:
    May 25th, 2018, 23:59

  2. Submission of application for internal selection
    Deadline:
    June 26, 2018, 11:59 pm
    The applicant's application must be sent to the following email address: bourses.fchusj@recherche-ste-justine.qc.ca

    Any request made after this date will be refused. No update of the file will be accepted after this date.

    The application must contain:
    - The letter of intent: 1 page maximum
    - Updated CV including list of publications, presentations and achievements
    - Description of the research project: For the pre-selection the description should be about 1 page.

    ** Applicant must read carefully the regulations governing the Fellowship Program. The candidate has the responsibility to see that his file is complete. Note that the committee reserves the right to reject any incomplete application. **
  3. Announcement of the candidates supported by the Research Center
    Deadline:
    August 17, 2018
  4. Personalized support for successful candidates
    Deadline:
    Between August 18th and September 19th, 2018
    The candidate will completes his application using Research Net (Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships/Bourses postdoctorales Banting).
    The committee will review the candidate's application and provide comments and suggestions prior to final submission to the organization.
  5. Submission of the application to Banting by the applicant
    Deadline:
    September 19th, 2018 (8:00 pm EDT)
