    Career Summary

    Dr Van Vliet completed medical school at the Free University of Brussels in 1976 and did his pediatric residency there from 1976 to 1980. He then was a pediatric endocrinology fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (1980-1983), before moving back to Brussels as a staff pediatric endocrinologist. Since 1989, he has been at the CHU Sainte-Justine, where he has been Chief of the Endocrinology Service since 1991; his academic affiliation is with the University of Montreal, where he has been a full professor in the Department of Pediatrics since 1995.

    Dr Van Vliet's research interests focus on the molecular pathophysiology of and screening for congenital hypothyroidism, and on the management and outcome of affected children. In addition, Dr Van Vliet has established an extensive network of collaborations to study the molecular basis of many pituitary, thyroid, adrenal and gonadal disorders affecting children and adolescents.
