Following his training at the University of Grenoble in France where he obtained a Doctorate in Medicine in 1999 and a Specialized Diploma in Pathology the same year, Hervé Sartelet completed a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the CHU de Reims in France. Furthering his training, he successively completed inter-university degrees in Feto-Pathology (2000), Renal Pathology (2003) and Pediatric Oncology (2005), his three fields of expertise. In conjunction with this medical training, he obtained a Master’s in Developmental Cellular and Molecular Biology at Université Paris XI (1998) followed by a Doctorate in Experimental Oncology at the same institution in 2009. In 2002, he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, France. In 2005, he joined the CHU Sainte-Justine as a pathologist. Since 2007, he has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal.
His teaching duties include a course on General Pathology offered to students enrolled in Physiotherapy (39 hours) which he heads. He also participates in other courses given to students completing a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science (6 hours) and in Dental Medicine (4 hours, Specialized Pathology).
Dr Sartelet's main research topic deals with the study of aggressivity factors and the development of novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of solid tumors in children.
His research interests focus on:
- neuroblastoma, one of the most frequent tumors in children;
- study of prognostic factors in neuroblastoma aimed at potential treatment targets;
- use of in vitro and in vivo neuroblastoma models (in collaboration with the Immunology Team) to test novel treatment strategies;
- study of cancer stem cells in pediatric solid tumors.
