My interventions, my research and my development projects are based on evidence targeting the organization of reproductive health services in French-speaking developing countries, particularly: the socio-cultural and health system (human resources management, career of women's professions to be with women, laws and corresponding regulations, social marketing, women's/couple's/family's empowerment, etc.), the educational system (evaluation of training and practice based on data evidence, skills-based training programs, training of trainers) and the professional system (organization of professions and trades that provide care for women, mothers, newborns and children). Particular attention is currently paid to: i) activities relating to the prevention and repair of situations of gender-based violence and sexual gender-based violence, particularly in times of conflict; and ii) the creation and management of the Observatoire Hygeia which aims mainly, through a global/global French-speaking network, to support, by various means, the empowerment, in health and in law, of women, girls and adolescents in the Francophonie. To achieve this, it uses various means, including the strengthening of human and institutional resources and the creation of a digital platform promoting interaction and exchanges of skills between human, material and institutional resources in the Francophonie.
Career Summary
Professor at the School of Public Health of the University of Montreal, Marie Hatem is dedicated to the cause of the well-being of women (adult, adolescent, girl) and their empowerment, their health care as a fundamental human right as well as gender equality, the reduction and control of violence against women. It advocates for: the development of human resources for health (RHS) and programs and institutes concerned with the well-being of women; and, for improving the quality of the continuum of reproductive/perinatal health services. She applies her knowledge in HRH management to make available, accessible and acceptable, qualified HRH to support women and their families at every stage of their reproductive life. To contribute to the development of multidisciplinary HRH programs and institutes in French-speaking countries, she founded the Observatory HYGEIA: Support the empowerment of Francophone women in health, bringing together various international partners. Professor Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize 2018, sponsor of Hygeia invited her to lead the research center of his Panzi Foundation, ICART, which targets the cause of women victims of sexual violence as a weapon of war. His experience has covered several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (e.g. Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Senegal) and the Middle East (e.g. Iraq, Lebanon). Throughout this journey, she touches on the vulnerability of women and women's jobs in the targeted regions.
